Shana Beth Mason blogs about the exhibition Sandra Gamarra: At the Same Time (Al Mismo Tiempo) on view at the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach through October 16, 2011.
Mason writes: "Like Struth's photographs of patrons in the Louvre, the Accademia, and the Vatican, Gamarra takes painted snapshots of passersby in a place comparable to a house of worship. She elevates this sensation by illuminating the blurred artworks from above, with the backs of viewers seen at close range; the viewer is anonymous, the artwork is lit from the high ceilings above. Ultimately, she suggests a growing separation between the artworks and those who flock to see them."
