Zachary Keeting and Christopher Joy visit the studio of painter Gaby Collins-Fernandez.
“For me the idea of having competing realms of visuality is really interesting. So, what is the spatial expectation of a painting? What is the spatial expectation of something which reads as something that lives in digital space? … What is the expectation for depth of field inside of those different kinds of worlds.. and then when we mix them together? … What does that mean about the kind of material and emotional realities that we have when we experience this extremely hybrid space? … This is actually how I interact, this composite of the digital world, the physical world, the photographic world is how I understand what an image is. In that sense it’s extremely representational painting.”
