Tyler Green interviews artist Dorothea Rockburne about her work on the occasion of the exhibition Dorothea Rockburne: Drawing Which Makes Itself at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, on view from September 21, 2013 – January 20, 2014.

Asked about her folded drawings, Rockburne comments: "I studied topology, that was my study in math… and one day I was working and thought, this work has a back and a front and depth and how do you bring this information that's contained within the material into observation, an observable position." She continues: "When I'm working I'm not thinking in language. I'm certainly thinking mathematically because it's of great interest to me – my natural way of thinking is abstractly."
