Zachary Keeting and Christopher Joy interview painter David Reed at his exhibition New Paintings at Peter Blum Gallery, New York on view through June 25, 2016.
Reed remarks: "I found that the emotions, the feelings behind the painting occurred to me when I had a sense of motion happening, and I wanted the paintings to explore that the way that happened. And often it happens with peripheral vision, that you see out of the corner of your eye a painting will seem to move; and it does move out of the corner of your eye, not when you're looking directly at something. And then you look directly and it stays still and then something else moves out of the corner of your eye. And I wanted to constantly be shifting and changing that way. And somehow those moments of movement are what gives the emotions and feeling of the meaning of the painting to come out."
