Jennifer Samet interviews painter Alfredo Gisholt whose work is on view at foma110, houston through October 24, 2018.
Gisholt comments: “I find forms that I can move around and use to construct pictures. It’s a way to internalize something and reconfigure it, re-process it, and try to always get to another place. It’s like going to see the sunset. We go today and it’s a beautiful experience, and we know it’s going to be similar tomorrow, but we still go to see the same thing happening again. There may be a variation, or a difference in our perception and experience. I draw these forms all the time. I make drawings and then see the world in relation to them. For instance, I am looking at clouds and thinking of ways to simplify them so they can be brought into the work. It is a back and forth.”
